"Listening to Sounds" Game

Keep a Listening Sound Jar/Basket in your classroom for the"Listening to Sounds" game! This jar/basket can contain anything that can make a sound (nothing too loud of course!), such as scissors, a shaker, a sand timer, a bell, a clothespin, etc. The goal is to provide 2 sounds that the students must distinguish from. Students can clap/cheer when they "hear the sound" you give. You can play the game during morning meeting, phonemic awareness lessons, guided reading, etc. This is a fun, highly interactive game that literally takes a few minutes but offers an important opportunity to practice discriminating sounds, which is essential for developing strong phonemic awareness skills!
