Center Design:
Any Kindergarten (homeschool) classroom will greatly enhance independent and appropriate learning alongside simple, organized, and creative learning centers, which include: reading, writing, math, & science activities. I recommend offering students 6-9 activities minimum per center (add more if your class size is larger than 18 students), with thematic/ seasonal adaptations. Some materials should always be made available, such as sand trays, writing paper, and alphabet cards, etc. It is important to display and arrange your centers in a visually appealing manner. You do not need to go overboard - rather keep your center design thoughtful and simple alongside calming colors and textures. For instance, use straw baskets, clear bowls/trays, or lightly colored Montessori/ cafeteria trays for each activity. Check your local dollar store or Amazon to purchase these items in bulk, and cheaply! Change out centers monthly to keep students engaged, interested, and challenged. When you keep centers streamlined and organized, students are better prepared to choose work independently and with confidence!
