Kindergarten Home School Classroom Tips
To Make Every Day Fun, Engaging, and Successful!

If your child is at the Kindergarten level, teaching them at home can be enjoyable and meaningful, but it can also be very challenging. In order to make each day fulfilling and successful, it is important to follow a few basic principles. Below, are some helpful kindergarten home school classroom ideas to inspire you as you teach your child at home! ​​​​​

While teaching and learning are important, be sure to allow some time for your child to take part in unstructured play. This helps to expand their imagination, and to use their creative and/or physical energy during the day.

"Follow the child!" If your child shows curiosity or interest in a certain subject or theme, use that interest as a focus so that they may be more engaged.

Read Books Aloud as often as possible throughout the day! "Read-alouds" help to: introduce vocabulary, build background knowledge, provide a model for fluency and expressive reading, build foundational skills, and inspire a love for reading.

Whenever possible, teach your child outside in nature! Not only does this stimulate a child's mind, but it increases a child's interest in a subject and their intrinsic motivation to learn.

Keep a flexible schedule that you can work with so that you don’t feel overwhelmed. While it is important to adhere to a routine, it is also reasonable to be flexible when things come up, and life happens. Just be sure to dedicate a few hours for lessons approximately 4x week.

Incorporate creative activities during your weekly lessons to promote healthy development, such as: drawing, coloring, painting, building, or another form of creative expression.
